The Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sports Awards is an annual event to celebrate outstanding sporting success and those who have made a tremendous contribution to sport in the sub region.
Sport is such an important contributor to the area and the Sports Awards provide recognition of the achievements of the people involved.
Until 2005, there were no existing sports awards in Coventry, or for the County Sports Partnership as a whole. Coventry University hosted a celebration event for Sports Scholars and had a large number of highly talented international athletes who were recognised in the University, but not in the sub region. In October 2004, the idea was put forward create the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sports Awards, leading to the first event taking place in 2005.
Fourteen award categories represent the full range of contributors to sport in the sub region and the event is managed by a representative group of seven key partner organisations which include Coventry University, BBC Coventry and Warwickshire, University of Warwick, Coventry and Warwickshire 2012 Partnership, Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sport, Coventry City Council and Coventry PE and School Sport Partnership.
