Community/Professional Coach of the Year Nominees
Paul Cudby (Football) - Since being appointed manager of Coventry City Ladies F.C. in June 2008 Paul has lead the team to two successive promotions. After finishing runners up in the 2010/11 FA Premier League Northern Division, they are now competing in the 2011/12 FA Premier League National Division.
David Roche (Football)- Community Development Coach at Rugby Town Junior F.C. David has been the driver behind many new initiatives at the club including weekly community skills coaching sessions, new female skills academy, Young Leaders Programme, links with local colleges, Coach the Coaches programme and a club coaching library. David has been recognised by the FA by receiving both county and regional coach of the year in 2011.
Peter Rome (Fencing)- Since September 2010 Peter has been leading regular training sessions in Coventry for 2012 hopefuls in the GB wheelchair fencing squad. Peter has now officially become the GB coach for the wheelchair fencing team attending the world cup in Spain and the European Championships in Sheffield. Peter is the National Academy coach in Sabre for British Fencing and has also led the Warwickshire Fencing Team to achieve their best result ever, 3rd place at the Excalibur Trophy.
Sportsman of the Year
Steve Merricks (Tae Kwon Do)- Steve has recently won his second Tae Kwon Do World Championship, fifth British Title and third English title.
James Burden (Swimming)- Represented Team England in Swimming at the English Schools and World School Games in Doha Quatar. Regained 50m Freestyle Championship
Nathan Woodward (Athletics 400m Hurdles)- 1st place at Aviva World Trials & UK Championships in Birmingham. 2nd place at European U23 Championships in Ostrava CZE. Competed for Great Britain at the IAAF World Championships in Daego, Korea.
Sportswoman of the Year
Jamie-Lea Winch (Bowls)- Bronze medal representing England at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. First place at the Junior and second place at the Senior British Isles Series.
Hayley Murray (Hammer Throw)- Currently ranked 2nd in the country at under 23 age group.
Danielle Stewart (Triathlon/Duathlon)- 2010 World Duathlon Champion age group 25-29. 2011 European Duathlon Champion age group 25-29. European Triathlon Champion age group 25-29.
Team of the Year
Coventry City Ladies F.C- Two consecutive promotions and now playing in the Women's 2011/12 FA Premier League National Division.
Leamington Netball Club- Midlands Regional Division 1 champions, now competing at a national level in the Premier Division 3.
Coventry University Men's Cricket Team- BUCS National Indoor Champions 2011 (Only University in West Midlands to ever achieve this). The first team to represent Coventry in the University Premier League.
Synergy Gymnastics- Since forming in 2006, Synergy Gymnastics Club have grown from strength to strength, doubling its membership size to approximately 220 gymnasts. Through a partnership with Coventry City Council, the club has set up a successful outreach club at Moat House Leisure Centre which has run for the past two years.
